The Bass Christof Fischesser was born in Wiesbaden and studied voice with Martin Gründler at „Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main“. His career took off when he won the first prize at the “Bundeswettbewerb Gesang” in Berlin. His first engagement was at the “Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe”, where he performed several major roles, such as: Sir Giorgio („I Puritani“), Graf Walter („Luisa Miller“), Raimondo („Lucia di Lammermoor“), Orest („Elektra“), Figaro („Le nozze di Figaro“), Fiesco („Simone Boccanegra“), and Mefisto (“Mefistofele”).
In 2004, he became a member of the ensemble at the “Staatsoper unter den Linden” in Berlin. Here, he made his debut as Rocco („Fidelio“), conducted by Simone Young, and as Klingsor („Parsifal“), conducted by Daniel Barenboim. He also appeared as Sarastro („Zauberflöte“), Figaro („Le nozze di Figaro“), Banquo („Macbeth“), Ramfis („Aida“), König Marke („Tristan und Isolde“), Landgraf („Tannhäuser“), Gremin („Eugen Onegin“), Escamillo („Carmen“), and Don Basilio („Barbiere di Siviglia“).
He gave guest performances in Wiesbaden (as Mephistofeles in „Faust“ and Kaspar in „Freischütz“), at the „Bayerische Staatsoper“ in München, at the Grand Theatre de Luxembourg (König Heinrich in „Lohengrin“), at the Oper Zürich (Rocco in „Fidelio“), at the “Wiener Staatsoper” (Don Basilio in „Barbiere di Siviglia“), at the “Teatro dell’ Opera” in Rome (Landgraf in “Tannhäuser“), and at the Göteborg Opera (Rocco in “Fidelio“).
Christof Fischesser is also a renowned for his appearances in concerts, for example in Beethoven‘s „9. Sinfonie“ with the „West-Eastern Divan Orchestra“ and Daniel Barenboim during a tour of Spain, in Beethoven‘s „Missa Solemnis“ with the „Bayerisches Staatsorchester“ and Kent Nagano, in Beethoven‘s „C-Dur Messe“ with the “Wiener Symphoniker” and Fabio Luisi, and in Mozart’s „Requiem“ with the “Mahler Chamber Orchestra” and Claudio Abbado.
Future roles of Christof Fischesser include: Sir Giorgio („I Puritani“) at the “Wiener Staatsoper”, Landgraf („Tannhäuser“) at “Covent Garden” London, “Opera National de Paris”, “Theatre du Capitole” Toulouse, and at the “Bayerische Staatsoper” München; König Marke („Tristan und Isolde“) at the “Opera de Lyon” and “Houston Grand Opera”; Padre Guardiano („La forza del destino“), Le Comte des Grieux („Manon“) in Tokyo and “Covent Garden”; as well as Rocco („Fidelio“) conducted by Claudio Abbado at the “Lucerne Festival”.
In Tokyo, he will also perform in Mendelssohn’s “Elias” with the “Orchestra RAI Torino”, conducted by Jeffrey Tate, and in Händel’s „Messiah“, with the “Orchestra Covent Garden”, London, conducted by Antonio Pappano.
